CHARA KONTOPOULOU
Chara Kontopoulou is a visual artist from Cyprus, specializing in abstract art. She holds a degree in Fine Arts and a Master’s in Arts Management. Her work incorporates mixed media like resin, texture, and paint to create artworks that are inspired by nature.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Chara’s paintings are based on abstract art – she uses layers of resin, paint and texture, to create organic shapes, on small and large scale canvases. The multiple layers of resin, texture and small painted marks, create an actual depth or a 3D relief painting. The outcome is a shiny and reflective surface, consisting of countless and delicate strokes. When the viewer changes his/her position, the overall image changes respectively.

Due to the nature of the materials, the painting responds to its environment, capturing and distorting reflections in a way that makes each interaction unique.
In the end, the viewer becomes the main subject of the painting, giving a whole new perspective to the artwork. As his reflection is mirrored back, the viewer creates his own distracted poetic image, which is in a very simple and human way very fascinating and seductive.
Through her art, Chara invites people to slow down, pause, observe, and feel, retracing their own serene moments that bring warmth and happiness. Like watching a sunset or feeling the gentle rhythm of the waves, her work evokes memories that are deeply cherished, sealed within, and forever connected to a sense of tranquility and joy.
